SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

At 3:53 p.m. Monady afternoon, Reno firefighters responded to a structure fire at a single family residence located at 5 Sunnyside Drive.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic, keeping it from spreading and causing further damage. “Through a coordinated attack with roof ventilation and interior attack lines crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and keep the property damage to a minimum,” advised Battalion Chief Sandy Munns.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire. Several dogs were in the residence, but firefighters and neighbors were able to safely rescue them. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Responding to the structure fire were three structure engines, one ladder truck, one air unit, one safety officer, one fire investigator, and one battalion chief. The Reno Police Department and REMSA responded to the incident to provide support services. NV Energy was also on scene helping fire crews by shutting off gas and electric services.
