Two people sent to the hospital after apartment fire

At 2:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Reno firefighters responded to a structure fire at an upstairs apartment at the Bristle Point Apartments located at 2050 Longley Lane.

The two senior occupants suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to Renown Health. The female patient received burns covering approximately 50 to 60 percent of her body. She is being transported to UC Davis. The male patient is currently in the intensive care unit at Renown Health.

The Reno Fire Department chaplain and the American Red Cross will be providing assistance for both of the individuals.

The fire started in the bedroom of the apartment. The cause of the fire is under investigation. At the time of this release it has not been determined if the other three nearby apartment units could be reoccupied due to the fire, structural and smoke damage.

Responding to the structure fire were three structure engines, one ladder truck, one rescue unit, one air support unit, one safety officer, one fire investigator, the fire department chaplain and one battalion chief. The Reno Police Department and REMSA responded to the incident to provide support services. NV Energy was also on scene helping fire crews by shutting off gas and electric services.
