SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

CARSON CITY–Senior Advisor to Gov. Sandoval Dale Erquiaga released the following statement this morning on the status of the attorney general filing in state Supreme Court:

“Late last night, the attorney general informed the governor that she is refusing to petition the Nevada Supreme Court to clarify its ruling in the Clean Water Coalition case. The attorney general told Governor Sandoval that “no grounds exist for filing a petition” in a matter which has resulted in the potential loss of $656 million in the state budget. As a former attorney general himself, the governor respects both the office and the attorney-client relationship, but he disagrees and is profoundly disappointed in the attorney general’s decision. He is further concerned about its implications.

“In a related matter, the governor had earlier requested that the attorney general prepare an opinion concerning the various revenue streams in the executive budget that are potentially impacted by the Court’s ruling. In light of the attorney general’s decision and her stated reasoning, the governor has withdrawn that request. Governor Sandoval is committed to finding a solution to the matter at hand, balancing the state budget, and pursuing a legislative agenda of necessary reforms.”
