SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

CARSON CITY–Gov. Brian Sandoval today issued the following statement after learning that his friend and mentor, State Senator Bill Raggio, is retiring from state service:

“If the state of Nevada had a Mt. Rushmore for public servants, Bill Raggio’s image would be etched on its face. Senator Raggio has been a friend and a mentor since I began my public career. Through many years, I have greatly admired his service and dedication to this state. On a personal level, I respect his decision.

“Serving as the father figure in the Legislature for almost four decades, Senator Raggio built and tirelessly fought for the Nevada System of Higher Education and many other programs and services. The Nevada Legislature will never be the same.

“Senator Raggio and I spoke as soon as he made his announcement. I wish Bill and his wife Dale the very best as they begin this new phase of their lives and I look forward to a continued friendship in the years ahead.”
