SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Violist Molly Carr was the winner of the Reno Chamber Orchestra’s annual College Concerto Competition, which took place Sunday at Nightingale Concert Hall.

Along with receiving a cash prize, Molly will be the featured soloist with the RCO in its concerts on January 22 and 23, 2011, performing Bartok’s Viola Concerto with Maestro Theodore Kuchar and the Orchestra.

The Competition’s second prize went to violist Tian Tian Lan, an RCO member currently studying at the University of Nevada, Reno. Third prize was awarded to cellist Matt Linaman, a Reno native now attending the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

The RCO sends its thanks go to all fifteen of our great competitors, to our judges — Aimee Kreston, Kenneth Osowski, and Anne Zentner — to accompanist Andrea Lenz, and to all the great volunteers who helped make the Competition possible.

Funding for the Competition, and for the RCO concerts at which the Competition winner performs, has been provided by a generous grant from The Bretzlaff Foundation.

The concerts on January 22 and 23, 2011 will also include music by Martinu and Vorisek as well as Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, featuring three RCO members as soloists – harpsichordist James Winn, violinist Ruth Lenz, and flutist Mary Miller.

Call the RCO at (775) 348-9413 to purchase tickets.
