Saint Mary’s welcomes newborns with lullaby program

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

RENO, Nev. – As a way to celebrate the birth of a new child, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center has launched a new lullaby program in its Family Birth Center. The overhead paging system heard throughout the hospital will now mark the birth of each baby by playing a 15-second recording of Brahms’ Lullaby strummed softly by harp.  The music will be initiated by a member of the newborn’s family through a push button located at the labor and delivery nursing station.

“We feel this program will be an uplifting and gentle reminder to everyone that a new life has entered the world,” said Susan Daw, director of Maternal Child Health at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.  “The concept is to remind staff, patients and visitors of the joy and beauty of new beginnings.”

Saint Mary’s is the only hospital in northern Nevada currently offering this program. In addition to the lullaby program, new parents will receive a mini celebration cake to commemorate the arrival of their newest family member.

Saint Mary’s Family Birth Center is committed to providing expert and personalized care to families.  New and expecting parents can take advantage of a variety of resources including monthly prenatal and postpartum classes, guidance from nurses specializing in maternal care and access to the latest in pre- and post-natal technology.  For more information about Saint Mary’s maternal and child health services visit www.saintmarysreno.org and click on “Medical Services.”
