Homecoming Week 2009 – Friday, Oct. 16 – Saturday, Oct. 24

  • Nevada Alumni Association and the Associated Students of the Univeristy of Nevada celebrate: Homecoming 2009 with a variety of student and community activities. Homecoming has been a tradition at the University of Nevada, Reno since the University’s first football game against the Utah State Aggies in 1920. This year’s Dr. Seuss-themed Homecoming is, “Blue Pack, Silver Pack, Our Pack, Wolf Pack.” For details on all ASUN and Alumni Homecoming events and activties, go to www.asun.unr.edu/homecoming and www.unr.edu/alumni/homecoming.aspx.
  • Community Book Drive – Now through Friday, Oct. 23: Bins are located around campus. Books collected before and during Homecoming benefit local literacy efforts.
  • Nevada Wolf Pack vs. University of Idaho Vandals, Saturday, Oct. 24: 1:05 p.m., Mackay Stadium

The Comstock’s Literary Mother Lode – Wednesday, Oct. 21

7 – 8 p.m., Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center’s Faculty & Graduate Reading Room
To enhance the public’s appreciation of the Comstock Era, a series of Wednesday evening “conversations” with noted local experts is offered throughout the month of October at the University’s Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. Each program begins at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 21, University Associate Professor of English Cheryll Glotfelty will present “The Comstock’s Literary Mother Lode.” On Oct. 28, University faculty members and producers David Fenimore and Ann Medaille present, “The Psychoscopre,” a readers theater adaptation of the 1871 melodrama.

Student Health Center Seasonal Flu Shot Clinic – Thursday, Oct. 22

11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Joe Crowley Student Union
The University Student Health Center is holding flu shot clinics where students can get free seasonal flu shots, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 22, at the Joe Crowley Student Union. Students can also get the seasonal flu shot for free at the Student Health Center every day, 8 to 11 a.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The University is enacting several measures to try to minimize the spread of both the seasonal flu and H1N1.

The Boogie Man Carnival – Sunday, Oct. 25

3 – 7 p.m., Joe Crowley Student Union Ballroom
The Undergraduate Student Social Work Association is holding a fundraiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. The Association is hosting a Halloween costume/safe-night out events for children for grades preschool to middle school. Games, live performances, face-painting, a Halloween costume donation bin and raffle prizes will be part of the carnival. In addition, Wolf Pack Mascots Wolfie and Alphie, plus the University Cheer squad will be at the event. The City of Reno Explorers Program will be fingerprinting students. This event is open to the public.
