SEN. HARRY REID NEWS RELEASE:

harryreid1-150x150-7545350-9674475WASHINGTON, D.C.–Sen. Harry Reid announced more than $800,000 of economic recovery funding is headed to Sparks for green job creation, as well as to reduce energy use, improve energy efficiency, and invest in renewable energy. Some of the projects include replacing traffic lights with energy-efficient LED lights, upgrading the lighting in the local police department, replacing street lights and beginning designs for several solar power systems.

“This money will continue the good work of the economic recovery act by creating green jobs in Sparks, while also helping to save taxpayer dollars through better energy efficiency,” Reid said. “This funding is a win across the board for Nevada.”

“We greatly appreciate the help and continued support from Senator Reid as we move forward on numerous sustainability efforts here in Sparks,” said Sparks Mayor Geno Martini. “This funding is extremely important when it comes to energy efficiency and conservation projects which not only help protect our environment, but provides long term cost savings for our residents. One of the more significant projects we can begin is the installation of a photovoltaic system at the Sparks Police Department.”
