Renown offers free health screenings for seniors Tuesday

Date:

Renown Health news release:

In connection with the 13th Annual Senior Fest scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8, Renown Health will offer free health screenings to participants on a walk-in basis. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (health screenings offered from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at Reno Town Mall, South Virginia Street and Peckham Lane.

Free screenings include blood chemistry/lipid panels, PSA (to test for prostate cancer), blood pressure, body fat analyses and bone density heel scans to test for osteoporosis (for women only).

Please note that fasting for 10 to 12 hours prior to the blood chemistry/lipid panel screening is required. If you are fasting, take your morning medications as usual. Water is encouraged; black or decaf coffee and tea are also acceptable.

New this year, Renown will also offer vascular screenings for the early detection of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) for $10 (regularly $25). PAD occurs when there is a build-up of cholesterol and plaque in the arteries of the lower extremities, causing decreased blood flow to the legs and feet.

Although not everyone experiences them, some signs of vascular disease include leg pain, slow healing wounds or sores or skin-color change in the feet. The vascular screening is ideal for people 70+ years old or 50+ with a history of diabetes or cigarette smoking.

Since this screening has limited availability, the $10 fee is a special Senior Fest rate only. If you are unable to receive your screening at the Senior Fest, please call 982-2270 to schedule a screening. The regular low-cost screening fee of $25 will apply.
