BLM identifies pilot in air tanker crash

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has identified Dave Jamsa as the pilot who was killed yesterday after his single-engine air tanker (SEAT) crashed while flying fire suppression operations on the Hoyt Fire.

Jamsa was an employee of Minuteman Aerial Application Inc., which is based out of Missoula, Montana, and was an employee of the company working a contract out of the BLM’s McDermitt SEAT base. The company has requested all inquiries regarding Jamsa be directed to Minuteman Aerial Application Inc.’s corporate number at (406) 728-9363.

The Hoyt Fire is located about 125 miles northeast of Reno, and has now burned more than 2,000 acres. The crash and the source of the fire are under investigation.
